musings, ramblings, things about iPods
links, resources, how-tos on the now ubiquitous mean machine: the iPod

So you've placed your order. Or you're about to saunter down to a store of your choice to acquire your newest joytoy - an iPod? What do you do first?
Well what have you done up till now? Installed iTunes, ripped your music, sorted them into playlists? Great start.
Also definitely think about the peripherals you'll be needing, case, car charger, dock etc etc. Of course, when you get iPod you'll know more about your real habits.
When you pack the iPod out of the box, you should charge it either with the wall charger (if you bought one) or by plugging it into your computer via USB. Take the time also to make sure to update the most recent software of both the iPod and iTunes.
You'll be prompted to choose a name for the iPod (right click to change this anytime), to choose iPod preferences and to register at Apple's website. Registering is a good idea but is no must.
With the official stuff out of the way, you can add the contents of your iTunes library to the empty iPod by automatically snycing. Afterwards this can be disabled as per your preference. Automatic syncing means that every time the iPod is plugged into your host computer, its contents will be mirrored to that of your iTunes library. E.g. if you erased your Beatles collection from iTunes in a moment of carelessness and you plug in your iPod, the Beatles on the iPod will also be erased.
You can also decide on syncing options for calendars, contacts and photos. And of course on whether you want to buy stuff off the music store (as prompted) or download podcasts.
Enjoy!
don't forget!
>> NO - the iPod has no stop button To stop press the play/pause button. To turn off press same button for minimum 3 seconds
>> always download latest software for the iPod since these include bug fixes and possibly new features
>> take the "do not disconnect" sign seriously and always eject the iPod from the iTunes source menu or at the bottom of the iTunes browser window, or from your desktop
